National Library Week Enters National Assembly under Slogan “The book is a Balm”
1 / 18

The Armenian Library Association in Armenia organizes and holds the National Library Week for 20 years. The National Library Week, being held this year on April 12-19, is one more occasion to re-evaluate the role and significance of a book and a library. The week is held under the slogan “The book is a Balm”.

At the beginning, 5-10 libraries took part in the event. Now, all libraries of Armenia joined the event. The awareness week is also exchange of experience week. Cultural events, courses and webinars for the librarians and readers are held in all libraries of the republic.

The National Library of Armenia decided to popularize the libraries of Yerevan and several regions, as many residents of our communities do not even know that there are libraries in their communities, do not know what they do and what services they provide.

The Parliament Library, as every year, joined this ceremony that had become traditional, this year too. The directors of the basic libraries of Kapan, Meghri, Sisian and Goris were invited to the NA. 90 books were handed to each of the four city libraries. The books have an important mission: the reading public will get acquainted with new publications and current themes.

The deputies and the representatives of the NA Staff took part in the ceremony. The legislators are sure that such events create additional prerequisites in terms of enriching the collections of the regional libraries and making the works of contemporary writers available to future generations.

According to the Head of the Sisian Cultural Center Gayane Vardanyan, the book is the driving force in life, and the mission assumed by the Parliament to revive the regional libraries is long-awaited.

The directors of the regional libraries are sure that with this step the NA will have its contribution in bringing the book closer to the society.

The Staff of the National Assembly will provide transport for delivering the literature to Kapan regional library.
